Hari Dhillon’s career has spanned internationally across television, film, theatre and radio. A native of San Francisco and its environs, he has worked in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and London. He is best known to audiences in England for his work on the BBC1 hospital drama Holby City, starring as Michael Spence since 2007. In 2008 he was a long list nominee for the National Television Awards. In addition to his recent television work, Hari has voiced over a number of documentaries and books, including The Asian Death Wish for the BBC Asian Network and The Decisive Moment for BBC Radio 4.
Prior to coming to England in 2007 Hari appeared in a number of US television shows and films including Medium, Charmed, The Loop, The Agency, Without a Trace, Mr Nice Guy, She Spies, Arabian Nights, Wit, Cradle to the Grave, and Entrapment. He has also performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London, the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, The Magic Theatre in San Francisco, and The Woman’s Project Theatre in New York. He also worked with Mike Figgis on The Ground Beneath Her Feet- a silent film/opera collaboration that premiered at the LIFT festival in 2008.
Hari is a graduate of UC Berkeley and the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. His previous jobs were as varied as his career. He has been a HIV/AIDS counselor in prisons and juvenile detention centers in California and Hawaii. He co-produced rock shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. He was a founding member and director of the highly successful Jawbone Theatre Ensemble, a San Francisco based theater company whose productions included Three Short Works by Samuel Beckett, The Conquest of the South Pole by Manfred Karge, and Napoleon, the Camp Drag Musical Extravaganza by John Fisher.
